Festivals and Games

Luna Pines keeps a year of festivals. Each one is an in-world holiday week with games run by Helper-Events in town. This is a chance for adventurers to unwind and have some fun with some lighthearted, thematic games.

Information on the festival and what games are available will be on #announcements-general so make sure to watch that space. Additionally, it will point to which RP channel the festival will be taken place.

If you have an idea for a festival or game you would like to play, you can either talk to a Helper-Events or run something yourself in #town-bulletin -board.

Who can join

- New PCs and PCs may join as you do not need the full PC role to jump in on the fun.
- A festival does not use your RP slot except for one there is a festive free-form temporary RP space available.
- Some games are quick (e.g. ring toss, archery, or a riddle) while others can require a short scene. Read the post for how to enter and participate.
- Rewards, are posted by the Helpers at the end of the festival.

How a festival week works

1. The calendar below tells you which week it is. Dates are the same week each year (for example Halloween is always the last week of October / 31 Marpenoth).
2. Helper-Events announce the festival and the games for that year.
3. Show up, play, and leave when you are done.
4. Lore from a festival may stick around on the bulletin board or in Town Lore. The games themselves are usually seasonal.

Calendar

Dates are the festival week. The holy day is usually at the end of that week. Games listed are ones Luna Pines has run before.

Winter

Week Faerûn Festival What it is
24–31 Dec Nightal Winter's Crest Most people see Winter's Crest as a secular holiday, often celebrated with omnipresent music in public areas, lavish gift-giving to relatives and loves ones, and the cutting and decorating of trees placed indoors. The Teuveamanthaar, or Grandfather Tree, in Luna Pines is often decorated with lights and other baubles for Winter's Crest.
1–7 Jan Hammer Feast of Pelor

The first day of the new year is also the holy day of Pelor and the Changebringer, as the old year gives way to a new path.

In the city, Luna Pines celebrates the Feast of Pelor with a grand midnight feast, which commonly features a short play celebrating the changes witnessed in the past year.

24–31 Jan Hammer Feast of Selûne

The Lunar New Year, also known as the Feast of Selune, was traditionally celebrated by following the cycles of Catha and Ruidus but that was replaced by the simpler method of hosting festivities on the first New Moon Rising of Ruidus annually.

8-15 Feb Alturiak Feast of Sune

An old farmer's tale tells of a young boy, mentored by a druid, who gained the wisdom of the forests by tasting the sap of a hazelnut eaten by a fish after using it in his cooking. Over time, this tale changed and had characters and pieces added on until it became the inspiration for the Feast of Sune. It is a day of joy and wonder where those looking for love attend their local festivities, partake in food and drink, and hopefully find the one (or many) they are destined by the gods to be with.

Spring

Week Faerûn Festival What it is
16–23 Mar Ches Feast of Mystra / Mage fair Around this time, as it is three months into the new year, there also tends to be traditions of metaphorical renewals to breathe new life into any resolutions made previously, whether that be new relationships, family members, or business opportunities. Married couples may renew their vows or take a second honeymoon; parents may throw a party in celebration of a child they welcomed and coworkers may host a feast to celebrate another year of employment.
1–7 Apr Tarsakh Feast of Leira

Named after the Lady of Deception, Leira, a goddess of deception and illusions and fun loving enigma of the Calamity. This holiday is a day of pranks and hijinks, carrying on in the absurd spirit of the wild and wacky tales parents would tell their children. Stories of her (or him) mocking Vecna the Lich King until he sealed himself away or turning Moradin's hammer into a plastic squawking chicken inspire feelings of mischief and mayhem in souls all around Wildemount.

8–15 Apr Tarsakh Lathander's Day

The new life of Spring is in full force. Eggs, eggs, and more eggs is the theme. Local shepherds and animal ranchers are celebrating their growing flocks and celebrating the return of warm weather

1–7 May Mirtul WIld's Grandeur

Though the Archeart is the god of spring, the peak of the spring season is the holy day of the Wildmother. The people celebrate the Wildmother's strength by journeying to a place of great natural beauty. This could be the top of a mountainous waterfall, the centre of a desert, or even an old and peaceful city park. Though it isn't a wide spread holiday in the cities, those who celebrate Wild's Grandeur are known to plant trees in observance of the holiday. In the coastal cities it wouldn't be strange to set aside this day to sail for no reason other than the pleasure of observing the natural beauty of their surroundings.

Summer

Week Faerûn Festival What it is
16–23 Jun Kythorn Tournament of Kord (Godsbrawl) Summer begins in the middle of Kythorn, officially starting at noon on the 16th day known as the Zenith, and is celebrated with games, feats of strength, and friendly competitions
8–15 Jul Flamerule Feast of Milil Milil's holy day is called the Feast of Milil, or Midsummer. It is celebrated on the 8th day of Flamerule, and commemorates the deities devotion to their operatic punishment for spying on the archfey

Some Elves open small doorways into the Feywild and celebrate alongside the wild fey with uncharacteristic vigor.
16–23 Aug Eleasis Founder's Day A celebration of the founding of Luna Pines!

Autumn

Week Faerûn Festival What it is
16–23 Sep Eleint Highharvestide Highharvestide is celebrated on the autumnal equinox, usually the 16th day Eleint.

Luna Pines celebrates with a great bonfire in the square of each neighborhood, around which each community dances and gives gifts.

Most people celebrate by gathering to watch the leaves turn and begin to fall, signalling the final harvest before winter. There are grand feasts and the dwarves unveil this year's rendition of their famous autumn brews.
24–31 Oct Marpenoth Halloween It is not exactly known why but on the 31st day of Marpenoth the rope barrier surrounding the town discolours and the mists that it holds back surge and consume the town transporting all of its inhabitants to a victorian gothic era version of Luna Pines. Not all people are affected thought and instead inhabit a twisted or more evil version of themselves.
24–30 Nov Uktar Festival of Harmony The Fesitval of Harmony is for celebrating friendship and camaraderie. It's a time to strengthen the bonds between friends and honor the relationships that bring joy and meaning to our lives. Occuring at the onset of Winter, it's also a time to store up and prepare for the cold.
